Słowa do tej piosenki napisał John Cameron w szkockiej mieścinie Ballachulish w 1856 roku. Melodia do której jest śpiewana, nazywna była pierwotnie Duil ri Baile Chaolais fhaicinn czyli "Mam nadzieję zobaczyć jeszcze Ballachulish". Ta zaś powstała na bazie starszej melodii Johnny stays long at the Fair. Do tej samej melodii Jim MacLean napisał słowa piosenki Smile in Your Sleep upamiętniające szkockie clearances, czyli wypędzenia. Dzisiaj piosenka ta jest jedną z ulubionych melodii granych przez szkockich dudziarzy, choć nie tylko - usłyszeć ją można w filmie Local Hero graną przez Marka Knopflera.
